It’s been a while since I penned (typed?) my thoughts here… way too long – but there has been a nagging thought in my head for the past 2 months and I would really like to share it with you – on a personal level! (big blogging no-no!)
As a woman, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a sister-in-law, a friend I have many roles and expectations to fulfil – sometimes the to-do list and the should-do list exhaust me more than the actual doing! And I constantly feel there is something or someone I have missed. But that thing I know for sure is that in order for me to successfully keep all the balls in the air and all the balloon strings in one hand, I need something that fills MY tank.
And no, I do not consider this selfish but rather self-full because when self is full of joy and satisfaction from doing something that fuels my passion, I have so much more to give to those who need my giving.
For some it is reading or shopping or cooking a master chef-like meal. For me it is dancing – ballet in particular. Sometimes I can get my fix from a youtube video or listening to a piece of music and seeing the choreography in my mind’s eye, but the best is standing at the barre and doing the moves that my body is intrinsically familiar with: pliès, tendus, ronds de jambe and adage. Even a 45-minute class is enough to recharge, refuel and re-energise.
And this is why I teach – to give others a safe and happy space to fill their tanks and be uplifted to go back into their worlds, enabled to be who they need to be – perhaps a little better or happier or easier. So, my wish is that you will search for that activity that will fill your tank to overflowing. Make time to do it, and enjoy it guilt-free, because you are worth whatever it takes to bring a smile to your face and fill your heart with enough to share.
And this I know that I know for sure.
